Youth Mental Health the Focus of The Network’s Second Online Tutorial

On Wednesday 17 June, The Network Gippsland hosted its second online tutorial as part of the For Doctors, By Doctors education series, bringing together medical students, junior doctors and registrars from across the region.

The session was presented by Kelly Abbott, a Credentialed Consultant Pharmacist and recipient of the 2026 PSA/MIMS Consultant Pharmacist of the Year Award, who shared her expertise on youth mental health and the latest developments in treatment and medication management.

Based in Traralgon, Kelly has an extensive background spanning medication management reviews, quality use of medicines programs, hospital and community pharmacy, health education, and multidisciplinary care. Her experience and passion for improving patient outcomes made for an engaging and highly relevant session for participants.

Throughout the evening, attendees explored current approaches to supporting young people experiencing mental health challenges, including emerging treatments, medication considerations, and practical strategies for clinicians working with young patients and their families.

The session generated strong discussion, with participants actively asking questions, sharing their experiences, and seeking advice on real-world clinical scenarios. Attendees also received access to current resources and evidence-based information that can be applied in both hospital and community settings.

The Network extends its sincere thanks to Kelly for generously sharing her knowledge and expertise, and for helping to build the confidence and capability of the region’s future medical workforce.

Online tutorials continue to be an important part of The Network’s commitment to supporting medical students and doctors across Gippsland through education, professional development, mentorship and connection.
